Valve have now officially announced the Steam Deck, Valves handheld take on the gaming PC, which can play any game from your Steam library, and also have all the capabilities of a PC, running SteamOS, from mod support to the Epic Games Store.
Although the Steam Deck comes as a portable gaming system, the console has got a dock in development, and although Valve haven’t set a date for release or a price, this all in one console can be connected to external displays or a keyboard and mouse for a real gaming PC feel.
The Steam Deck will be ultralight coming in at (Approx.) 120 grams, and will have an AMD Zen 2, 4 core CPU, 16GB of RAM, Storage options from 64GBs (£349.00), 256GBs (£459.00), 512GBs (£569.00), an SD Card slot, a 7″ touchscreen at 720p and has an aspect ratio of 16:10, a maximum refresh rate of 60Hz, with a battery life from 2-8 hours, depending on the game and FPS, and all bundles coming with a carrying case.
The Deck will also have Bluetooth capabilities, so wireless headphones such as Airpods, can be connected to the Deck for the highest audio quality.
The Steam Deck will also have mod support, and all the capabilities of a normal PC, meaning the Epic Games store will be available on the Steam Deck, even though they are one of Steam’s biggest competitors.
The Steam Deck can be purchased at 3 different prices: You can reserve the Steam Deck now for £4, (Maximum one per customer, and only in the United States, Canada, European Union, and the United Kingdom), as they will begin shipping in December 2021.
